This week was a tough week to get any writing finished. I was travelling, yet again, making it six out seven weeks this year that I have been on the road. I feel far behind on my goal of 10,000 words per week, however, I do feel good that I have written over 25,000 words this year with all the travelling that I have done thus far.
Sometimes life gets in the way of writing, and I have been told by numerous authors - full-time and part-time - that it is important that we give ourselves grace. I have to remind myself that for a number of years, I never put this many words on the page and it is not even March yet. Reminding yourself that goals are often a moving target, and that progress is still progress regardless of the speed, are both important ways to give yourself some grace.
All-in-all, the progress I am making on my debut novel is solid. I plan to finish the first draft sometime in late March - early April. I have planned out the progress it will require to finish books 2 and 3 in this trilogy by Christmas, and I have worked out some time in there to submit at least 6 more short stories for publication this year. I hope some get picked up by publishers but if not, I will still enjoy writing them. All 6 open calls that I have selected for this year were selected based on ideas I have had for quite some time. The open calls have themes that happen to align with these stories so now I get to explore more worlds that I have created over the years.
In general, I am excited and nervous and hesitant and now, I am most certainly procrastinating so I will leave you with this... Keep writing!
